Mother’s lie for daughter’s marriage

What can we describe about our dear MOTHER on earth? Isn’t she equivalent to GOD, hope do you all agree with this truth. YES! As a writer I agree with the above lines too.[ But some Mothers are Monsters too ]. But do you all believe a mother can go to any extreme for their kids to give them good life style. YES! Again!!! Here I shall take you to a story where mother plays a significant role.
“Mom, where is my dupatta”, presumably the voice of a daughter, came from the nearby household, screaming at her mother. It was Ria, who just crossed her teens and was nearing 20. She carried a beautiful personality, where she would look simple and elegant but still contemporary in her dressing.
Most of the boys her age would ogle at her looks, try to hit a dialogue and also to catch a glimpse of her.
Indeed, she was heavenly in appearance but she was very finicky about her outfits though. It had to look simply appealing and adoring to her, more like love at first sight!!! She was street smart, sassy, intelligent, caring and happy-go-lucky girl.
Here, was a level headed girl who grew up with the pace of modern world.
“Did you check it in the wardrobe, I folded the pink dupatta and kept it below the second rack” answered mom. “Oh! Mom, how many times I have to tell you, why you don’t keep it all together in the set. I don’t want to ask you every time, but, you make me ask you ALL the time” yelled Ria. These things kept happening every now and then.
Contrary to her interpretations, her mom, orthodox, spiritual, self-restraint and was holistic in thoughts. She has seen this dog eat dog world for 50 years now and according to her now, her daughter was attaining a marriageable age. As a single parent, Yes! Unfortunately, she lost her husband when Ria was just 12 years old. It was a difficult ride for her to sail through the turbulences in the life shores. Ria, was not aware of her mother’s struggles, as a mother she kept her away from her difficult times as she was the only offspring and hence was very dear and near to her.
As a mother, she offered the best of education she could afford, dreamt always about her daughters rosy future. Whenever she watched some movie on TV she would get mesmerized and immersed in thoughts and would picturize the actress to be Ria! She was seeking the best to happen to her.
One fine day, Ria, after finishing her graduation course in literature, she took interest in modelling, haute couture and fashion designing. She grew up with the likes of her favorite TV shows and Hollywood movies, she liked the way the actors sported cool looks, dresses, hair and makeup. Her close friends would gift her Chanel, Dolche and Gabbana handbags, cool lip colors and gloss for her birthdays as she was a sweet and pleasing to them, giving them kindly advice whenever needed as to grooming ideas.
Her mother thought this is one of the fancies she picked up lately and she would forego in thoughts very soon. “Mom, I need you to give me 1200 Rs. for the application form, and I am going with my friend, Neha, to buy the form from the National School of Design. I shall be back in the evening, don’t wait for me, have your lunch and take your BP tablets without fail okay” uttered Ria. Her mom wondered, “Oh! Is this for real, she really seems to be getting on my nerve now” thought to herself.
Ria, devoted most of her time on her dreams, and with renewed vigor shuddered the dreams and in reality wanted to create a niche in the fashion industry by giving her best in the designing world.
Quickly understanding that her daughter is really serious about her so called fancy, she became cautious and started looking out for an alliance for her daughter. Mother thought, “If only I leave it to her choices, she will remain spinster for life! Her orientation to her newfound career and interest is of little use to middle class family like us, and so I have to act smart and get her married very soon”.
Gradually, the mother developed sympathy towards her daughter by telling her that, “Ria, I am getting older day by day, and after you are married to a prince charming, we will hardly have time for ourselves and so I thought, the rest of the time when we are together I want to spend some quality time by cooking, chatting, going out for shopping, restaurant, and movie, share our interests and so on.” Ria was quite astonished by the change in the attitude in her mother, she conveys her mother in a polite voice that becoming a fashion designer is her life time goal, and how can I quit MOM!
Mother says, “Now I am at my 50’s already, I shall not be able to take your responsibility anymore, and so I want to get you married soon”. Daughter was totally shattered by her mother’s talk, she wanted to convince her mother somehow to take up the designing course, but all her efforts turned futile.
Ria tried to convince her mother by telling funny jokes on marriage, like “SHADHI KA LADOO AGAR KHAOGAY THO, JINDAGI BHAR LADOO HI LADOO BANANA PADHEGAH “,
mother with a blushing tone and told her daughter that I ate these type of ladoos and so you please taste it too” winked her mother. Ria left the place by not answering anything to her mom.
Days passed by, and the girl turned 23. Albeit her mom was dead against her wishes, she googled up the websites for online classes on fashion designing and self-training by herself. When her mother got to know about this, without her daughter’s knowledge, she started seeing alliance in matrimonial site, after a week search by her mother, one alliance matched with her daughter’s bio-data, and to her luck the family was wealthy enough. Mother got inspired by this alliance, and she wanted to convince her daughter to get married to this match, but daughter was not ready for marriage.
Mother tries so much to convince her daughter, but she fails to convince her., and so mother got angry and wanted to try some tactics, no matter even if she lies to her own girl, to get her approval for marriage.
She developed a plan, she thought, “If I take baby steps she will jump up high, and so I should usher her into this wedlock as quickly as possible”.
Firstly, she emotionally blackmailed by telling her daughter how she brought up and what all pain she had borne being a single parent and that she had not enjoyed any fruits of life and so, “I want you to get that enjoyment, and this will happen only if you marry to this smart, tall and handsome person who is affluent as well.
We are just living middle class life; where we can only fulfill our daily needs, beyond that we don’t have strength to fulfill our dreams, dear”. Listening to her mother, daughter was totally perplexed, and so she went to her friend’s place, to clear her head.
She spoke to her friend and told everything. Her friend advices her to take the decision wisely and suggested her, “Ria, don’t take any decision when you at confused state, put a hold on your marriage”. Here again her friend kindles her by saying “ARAY DOST SHADHI KI ETHANI BHI KYA JALADHI HAIN, SABRAH
RAKHO, SABRAH KA PHAL METHAH HOTA HAIN “. Her friend says in a smiling face ”OK! OK! Jokes apart., hmmmm ask your mother to give you some time to think about it”.
After a long chat with her friend she came home, they both agreed and decided to go to a temple, to have some peace of mind.
Next day, while returning from a shop, as she entered the house, she saw a family sitting and talking with her mother, then she realised about that family which her mother told. Ria grew very angry and very upset about her mother’s behaviour. After groom’s family left, mother told her daughter that she did not call them, somehow they also searched for a match for their son in matrimonial site and they saw her bio-data. She had rehearsed these lines for at least 20 times, as she did not wish to fumble in front of her and therefore pretended that such incident happened unknowingly., but the truth was something else., Mother called that family home to see her daughter; mother told to that groom’s family that I will somehow convince my daughter for marriage and so the groom family agreed to her proposal.
After few days, mother again took the topic on her marriage and told her daughter, “I told them about your dream to become a fashion designer and you want to pursue your education on this after marriage, they agreed for it, MY DEAR! And they also promised that they will set up an office for you to work after your course, and also agreed to bear the entire expenses to finish the course”.
“How unbelievable and treacherous can she be”, thought Ria. Now daughter knew that her mother has crossed all her limits to push her to get married. She understood what is there in her mother’s mind, daughter started ignoring her mother, and whenever her mother took the topic of her marriage she ignored her all the time. But mother as she was firm and stubborn she was not willing to lose this family for her daughter.
Finally, mother decided, this is not happening, I cannot retreat to her at any cost, and so, she now pretended to not keeping well, and that her BP has gone down terribly therefore she had to be admitted in the hospital. Ria, was totally shattered, as she was beginning to think that she failed her mother on her wishes and her condition is worsened owing to her stern arguments about her marriage. She enquired the Dr, and asked him how she is doing. Doctor adviced one of his nurses to give drips to the patient, but mother in an eye sign language and winked at doctor, and told her not to give her drips; he was taken aback and asked her mother to sit inside the clinic room, and asked the daughter to get medicine’s, meanwhile mother explains her personal issues to doctor and also told she is perfectly alright, she just acted like not being well; and requested doctor to maintain the same, in fact she told doctor to tell her daughter that my lifetime is less and so you should take care of her, she should not get disturbed by any shock for any reason. He understood her good intentions and agreed to run the dramatic scene as doctored by the mother!
Daughter brought the medicine from the pharmacy, doctor explained her mother’s condition to her and asked her to take good care of her mother. They came home from the clinic, seeing her mother’s condition, daughter agreed for the marriage; she told her mother to go ahead with other formalities with groom’s family. Finally mother was happy and told her daughter “STAY BLESSED MY CHILD”.
