Unlike most marriages in India theirs was a love marriage. Rani tied the nuptial bond with Raju and sealed their togetherness forever; for their next 7 reincarnations according to Hindu mythology. They had been in a relationship for as long as Raju can remember. Although there were several periods of emotional turmoil, tying the knot seemed like the right thing to do for Raju. Rani with her exquisite beauty and insidious mind always had the upper hand with Raju. Making Raju mend according to her needs was very usual for her. She was that kind of a possessive partner who wanted her significant-other all to herself. But blinded by coital desires and her polished feminism Raju chose to ignore all this.
Raju rushed home from work to be with her, or maybe Rani made him rush. Every night a scrumptious dinner was followed by passionate fornication. Pleas of meandering friends to socialize were deceptively ignored by Rani. Raju’s friends, few in number, became even fewer. Holidays without each other’s company were forbidden.

Raju found a considerable amount of false joy in attending dainty social events just to oblige his beloved. Mundane parental gatherings were also preached by his darling with full rigor. Failing to comply with any of this was met by severe abstinence and various other forms of mental pestering. Rani managed to conceal all of this under the veil of her unending love, so Raju was dutifully forced to comply and they ended up spending most of the time with each other.
Raju couldn’t hold his wits when they were blessed with their first baby boy, they called him Raja. Months after the delivery Rani also joined the adolescent clan of Raja. They both joined hands to drive Raju crazy with their, constant and collective, crying, loud altercations and chronic insomnia.

Time passed and Raja grew up to be a healthy boy. Rani took utmost care of her little prince, looking after his every need and comfort, sometimes so much so that depriving Raja of his fatherly love. Rani’s excessive proximity to their son disallowed Raju to spend quality time with Raja. In the bedroom, sensual coupling was gradually being replaced by a motherly chastity.

Raju managed to meet his few far-fetched friends whenever he could escape his household bondages. Hobbies couldn’t find a place in his domestically occupied mind. Having the ambiguous contentment of a loving family kept his mind fairly at peace.

Raju was thrilled at the birth of their beautiful baby girl, they named her Mena. Raja was in high school when this new member got added in their family.

The first few years were tough on the entire family since the new baby demanded more attention than the three of them combined. More fights started to erupt between the old-weds. Loud disagreements flourished, doors fiercely banged, food was stubbornly unprepared all amidst the constant howls of Mena.

Rani always found delight by somehow pulling her son into the argument and making him drift to her side. Tattered by this domestic dismay Raju found himself getting morose at many times. Rani on the other hand swelled, both in her waist and in her appetite for domination. In the bedroom, the passionate fumbling had ceased to exist.

Systematic aversion to all his friends, made possible by the dominating Rani, had dissolved Raju’s relationship with almost all of them. Being hit by minor mid-life crises he had come to realize the importance of other elements in his life. Over the years his aloofness to his wife kept on increasing. Any number of holidays was not able to restore the love between them.

By the time Raju sprouted his first white hair Raja had graduated from college to become a doctor and Mena enrolled to become a fashion designer. As the hair on Raju’s head was withering away so was his potency in homely matters.

Rani by her shear will had assumed command over the functioning of the household. She had become the innocuous socialite of the locality having an array of tea- and kitty-parties at their house. Her shopping extravaganzas had become bi-weekly affairs. Going out with her female entourage was also on the rise. All this meant that the time available for poor Raju was lesser than ever.
The merry occasion of Raja’s wedding arrived. He had agreed to settle for an old fashioned arranged marriage. Needless to say Rani was in the front of all the various talks with the to-be-in-laws. Her proclivity for domination extended in the house of the in-laws too. The wedding went through with great joviality and soon they had a new member living in their house.

Under the influence of Rani, The Dominator, the harmony of the house was shattered beyond repair. Three ladies of the house Rani, Mena and Rena, the new daughter-in-law, bid adieu to adult logic and squabbled over any petty matters they could get their hands on. Raja was invariably caught in the cross fire as his affection was torn between his new wife and bitter mom. Raju was pushed further into irrelevance but a part of his was glad about it.
Few years went by and Raja was blessed with a baby girl. Just about this time Mena expressed her desire to get married to the boy of her choice. The parents having done a similar thing did not oppose to this. Soon Mena left for her matrimonial home. The departure of Mena and the arrival of the baby girl worked a mysterious magic on Rani and Rena, they formed a strong covalent bond; they meticulously tag-teamed their way into making both their husbands irrelevant.

Raju who was by now accustomed to such a situation looked at his son and gave a mean grin.

Raju felt dull and lonely inside. After so many long years he was finally unveiled by his wife’s love and saw what she truly was. Determined to strike back; Raju began to behave erratic when around his beloved.

He stopped mending to her needs as he used to do before under the influence of carnal embrace. He started devoting more time to himself and his hobbies. Detachment from domestic hustle-bustle gave him an unmatched serenity. The Dominator was greatly perplexed at this change in her husband. It very much annoyed her to not being able to control him as before, which gave Raju a great amount of satisfaction. Seeing his father Raja also attempted to do the same but failed to a great extent as Rena’s mesmerism was too much to break. Finally at ease with himself and his surrounding Raju heaved a sigh of relief.

60 Angry old man
The last hair on Raju’s forehead gave way when Raja’s daughter graduated from high school. Raju was retired now. He devoted most of his time to his hobbies and grandchildren. Spending time with his grandchildren gave the most joy. He had managed to turn the tables on his wife now, cancelling her dominating nature by his relentless detachment.

He taunted Rani a lot to give her a hard time and keep her under check.

He managed to restore his importance in domestic matters with great respect. Now it was Rani’s turn to dwell into solitude as she was rendered unimportant in the wake of Raju’s confidence.

One night Raju sat on his rocking chair contemplating his life’s choices. He thought about the day of his marriage with Rani. He remembered being happy but there was an emotion, a shred of doubt on which he was not able to put his finger. ‘Could things have turned differently for me?’ he thought with deep introspection. He waited then to spend the remaining 6 lives with Rani.

Love runs out years after marriage

Manmohan and Gajanan – both are childhood friends. Gajanan got married to Rajjo last month, and Manmohan has decided not to marry at all. Bittu is the childhood friend of Rajjo, and she is the one, with whom Rajjo shares everything. Bittu is also married and presently the neighbor of Rajjo and Gajanan.

During some of the weekends, Manmohan and Gajanan meet at the Nanoo’s Bar to have couple of pegs and words.

After Gajanan got married, Manmohan and Gajanan met for the first time in a month.

“Hello Gajju brother, how’s married life?”
“Uff… don’t ask Mannu bhai… colorful days and exotic nights… I am living the life.”
“You mean…”
“I mean… ‘Roop tera mastana, Pyar mera deewana, Bhul koi humse na ho jaye’ !!!”
“Oye hoye, my Babbar Sher…Cheers to that. Hello waiter, two large Royal Stag…on the rocks…”

Meanwhile in Gajanan’s house…

“Hello Rajjo didi, how’s going?”
“HeyBittu, don’t ask that… I feel shy thinking that.”
“Ya ya, I know… sleepless nights and all…”
“You are very naughty.”
“And you’re feeling sleepy… hi hi hi…”
###

After that, nearly a year has passed. Manmohan and Gajanan were busy in their lives, and eventually they got a chance meet once again.

“Hello Gajju brother, how’s life?”
“Nothing special Mannu bhai, it’s just moving on.”
“You mean…”
“I mean… ‘Main jindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya…’”
“I understand bro…no worries. Hello waiter, two large Royal Stag…on the rocks…”

Meanwhile in Gajanan’s house…

“Hello Rajjo didi, how’s going?”
“Nothing special Bittu, household works, family planning…”
“Ya ya, I know… what about taunts from mother-in law?”
“Don’t ask. It’s tough sometimes…”
“You bet…”
###

Gajanan had to go for official onsite visit after that, and it was quite a long tour. By the time he came back, Manmohan was transferred to some other city. Eventually, he visited Gajanan’s office for some official purpose, and they met again after five long years. After the office was over, they again met at their old place.

“Hello Gajju brother, how’s life?”
“Life? What life? What are you talking about?”
“You mean…”
“I mean… ‘Bandh gaya patta, Dekho bann gaya Kutta…’”
“Same stories are everywhere bro… I still don’t understand why we are living on this planet…like some useless creatures. Hello waiter, two large Royal

Stag…on the rocks…”

Meanwhile in Gajanan’s house…

“Hello Rajjo didi, how’s going?”
“How can it be with a man like that? Do you know what happened?”
“What? Anything serious I think…”
“On our anniversary, I asked for a necklace from Tanishq. And you know what… he bought me one from that local Zaveri jewelry shop. Have a look… how cheap it is…”
“But this is a costly one I guess…”
“What costly? Only fifteen thousand… My God, next month I am gonna attend my sister’s marriage… just think what the relatives will say… ‘Zaveri’s necklace’…I can’t think anymore.”
“Oh ho… you should have told him that. This shit is serious didi.”

###

Things started to turn worse for Gajanan and Rajjo. The magic of their relationship was evaporated into the thin air, and it was only left with sheer animosity. But life moves on. It was not possible for Gajanan to get rid of her, and he took it as the crude satire of fate. By that time, nearly ten years have passed. One day, out of the blue, Gajanan saw Manmohan outside his office. He just rushed to him, had some small talks, and then visited their favorite place after the office time.

“Hello Gajju brother, what’s up? You were about to say something…”
Gajanan was silent.
“Hello bro… what’s the matter?”
Gajanan nearly shouted in anger, “She asked for car, I bought one… she asked for a separate flat, I bought one… she wanted jewelries, I bought many… I gave her everything she wanted. And you know what she told me last night?”
“What?”
Gajanan murmured in a feeble voice, “Tumse na ho payega.” He shouted again, “What the hell am I supposed to do? I am a human being, not a money plant. I am fed up of my ass getting kicked every damn day.”
“I can feel your pain bro. It’s like an endless black hole, and we are bloody trapped. Neither can face it, nor escape it… what a life !!! Hello waiter, two large Royal Stag…on the rocks…”
“Make it four, bro…”

Meanwhile in Gajanan’s house…

“Hello Rajjo didi, how’s going?”
Rajjo replied with anger, “Like rotting amidst the seventh circle of hell.”
“Why? What happened now?”
“You know… he bought a flat… that’s fine… but who told to bring that old nagging mother of him with us? Few days back we went to have dinner at Radisson,

and you know what, we had to take her along with us. My God, she can’t even use the spoons. It was so… so embarrassing.”
“She’s kinda terrible, isn’t it?”
“You bet. But I have told him already; either you live with me, or your mother. And you know him… he can make big drama out of such a small issue…”
“Like mother… like son…”
“Absolutely right! After episodes of long drama, he has finally agreed to send her away day after tomorrow.” Rajjo hissed, “you know… I am feeling like killing that old hag right now…”
“hi hi hi… best of luck my ‘Jack the ripper’ !!!”

###

There was nothing left between Gajanan and Rajjo. However, they somehow managed to pass thirty years of their lives without killing each other. Today Gajanan is retiring from his services, and how Manmohan can miss this day? He came to congratulate him, but couldn’t find him. Then he thought of searching him in ‘Nanoo’s Bar.’ And…

“Hello Gajju brother, you are sitting here? All alone?”
“Who are you gentleman?”
“Gajju bhai… I am Mannu… Manmohan… you forgot me?”
“After so many years of marriage, it becomes tough to remember my own name. And you are asking about yours?”
“Gajju bhai… Gajju bhai…don’t take tension man… I am here…”
“What difference will it make? Anyways, it feels good to hear my name in such a polite tone. Ahh… after such a long time…”
“Seems that you are gradually becoming a philosopher.”
“Remember Mannu, after so many years of marriage, a man can either be happy or a philosopher.”
“You nailed it bro… today I can understand, why men die from heart attacks?”
“Why?”
“’coz women don’t have hearts… ha ha ha… see I have also become a philosopher… Hello waiter, two large Royal Stag…on the rocks…”
“Hey… I am on liquid diet…”
“It’s the same bro… liquid only…”

Two conspiring teens

Meanwhile in Gajanan’s house…

“Hello Rajjo didi, how’s going?”
Rajjo replied with reluctance, “It’s the same… same rotten idiotic face everyday… same fights…”
“Now you have your own house, car, jewelries, bank balance… your children are also settled… what more do you want?”
Rajjo gives a devilish chuckle, “perhaps a new husband.”
“Oh ho ho… like the last flickering of a dying lamp…”
“I have heard that there is a website called OLX. People can sell old things over there, and sometimes good exchange offers also come out. I am thinking of selling him in OLX, and… if I can manage to get a new one… hi hi hi… I feel shy thinking that.”
“You naughty girl… but will you be able to manage?”
“You don’t know me… I am THE Rajjo… The queen George of the jungle…”
“hi hi hi… best of luck with your exchange offer.”
