Lottery winners and paraplegics are found to be equally happy after long time, say 1 year.

Research has shown that joy of a Promotion, Raise, or say a fortune lasts for very less time. While surprisingly the most important life events such as accident, loss of a limb, divorce, layoff, death in family etc are accepted and forgotten by most.

On a cool evening, the terrace of Prateek’s house was filled up with the chitter-chatter of friends, they were not astronomers of course to admire the celestial heavens up above but it beseemed them. The missing two in the gang formed the main course of discussion which of course would not suffice for their munching pursuits, and for that there were drinks, chips, pakodas kept.
It can be easily surmised that the most rotund member of this group Ganesh had the largest appetite although these days thanks to Renu, he sacrificed his otherwise free anything eating practices as there is a stringent agreement that she won’t wed him unless he shrinks in weight.
Ganesh said, “remember the riveting party last year into which we pulled our Ramesh to. Anand became prosperous inheriting fortune from a deceased relation…”

Renu supplemented “must have been a very distant grand old uncle…”
It was at Anand’s party where Renu came by Ganesh, he was conspicuous with his food binging that did intially repel away Renu from getting interested on him. However, it so happened, that Renu had to make use of him to repel away interest of other men who made her edgy, her cousin Anand was engrossed in jubilation to give her any comforting attention.
“well…” Ganesh had flashes of the party scene and smiled fondly, what humoured his bitter Renu that day was the glimpse of Lalitha stamping Anand while being the recipient of overdramatized condolences from Lalitha’s rival Harini.
“he gifted you me or is it only the other way round?”, his tone was so unfeigned, it touched everyone and Renu got dumbstruck. Prateek patted Ganesh’s tummy, “Reduce weight and get married soon yaar” and unknowingly Renu smiled, it had some shades of a blush.
“well, Ramesh got a real gift, how come he is definite that wheeling wheelchair is selfsame to riding a bicycle??, that nurse’s magic?” Prateek continued, as Ganesh took a break with the conversation.
All of them suddenly became sorrowful. They recalled 2 years back Ramesh had an car accident and was unconscious for a seemingly protracted period. When he recouped consciousness, they witnessed his mother’s love and happiness as she kissed him like how powder puff makeup brushed all over on the cheeks and he was not even able to say anything out of pain. He could never walk again which caused him distress but his presence was the biggest healer.
“He is in love with his nurse Radhika, told him to keep her company with her but not think of love and all, women may not now accept him, and well maybe in time with stronger bonds, it is possible they may get tied in a deeper relationship”
The doorbell rang for which Renu responded, “come, let’s open the door”, “but…” “it will be an exercise and well you can hold my hand” Ganesh was not really convinced to gear up to step down two flight of stairs but the doorbell rang again and everyone only gazed at him, even the doorbell seemed to badger him on to open door. “Ok, allright, but on one condition you will allow me to eat those pakodas …”
Prateek went down to open door, while Ajith and Ramani were like they knew this was bound to happen…
Ganesh highlighted a sensitive point that troubled him “seriously if you won’t marry me unless I lose weight, then you don’t love me, you know”
He said that with resigned anger and went down after Prateek, Renu hurried after him, turning with a ugly face to the two guys who were also beginning to walk after them “damn those pakodas!!”, “I heard that, but spot on, damn them!!” With that she clutched her man’s arm tighter and she was glad he damned the pakodas not her!!

Ajith and Ramani after enduring this decided to pack and keep the pakodas out of reach and sight of Ganesh for now.
Out from the opened door Lalitha and Anand came and even Ganesh ran down to help convey Ramesh in, Renu smiled greeting her cousin and both of them eyed each other like expressively alluding when are they going to get married, Anand on Ganesh running and Renu on Lalitha smiling. “Missed you loads brother”, she hugged him and “well financial counselling sessions, so Lalitha is a finance expert?”
After the said party, Harini with a fiendish smile asked Anand, similar in approach to how Satan must have corrupted Eve to have the forbidden fruit – “oh, after you the fortune goes too…whom??, that person should be soo lucky, provably the one you will marry, Lalitha right!!!”
That night Anand decided to spend every penny of his fortune so Lalitha won’t marry him for money and he intended in going on a long tour spending all his money but he owed it to Ramesh to go wheel chair shopping. Lalitha always encouraged Anand to spend time with Ramesh, and instead of dates, most often they were both with Ramesh cheering him along. Infact, in front of Ramesh Anand proposed to Lathita after swallowing and drinking lots of water even though heart of heart he was not ready for the commitment. They went to lot of financial investment counselling sessions and counsellors too, she understood money gave him a different sort of stress and insecurity.

“I am not world cup that you carry me like that” Ramesh was protesting, “well you are even more valuable” told Lalitha, “see my wheel chair, new one, handle with care ok, gentleman”
Everyone ruffled his hair, “heard about the nurse, how is she?” “she’s good, let’s do something, so bored, one bothered to arrange a get together”
They had a good time, Ramesh’s disability was forgotten, Anand’s fortune, they did not matter, life is more than these instances, it’s a sum of many things that define happiness.
