percentage calculations over absolute calculations

People will not travel far to save money when percentage savings is low. People unnecessarily try to save % wise. If an item is costing Rs 500 in other part of the city while near the house it is Rs 1000 then people say they are ready to go and buy that for Rs 500. People do not like to pay ” double ” for that is available so cheap !

But if some thing costs 31000 Rs near the house while in the other part of the city it is Rs 30500 then to save that same amount of Rs 500 people are not ready to travel.

Here is a conversation between two friends about the way of saving their money in purchasing. Many people will be ready to travel long for buying cheaper things. And if they want to buy for some big amount they will go with nearby shop. Is that a good method of purchasing?
Let’s see the opinion of two friends and how did they conclude
Koushik: Hi Ishan . Good morning. ..
Ishan: Hello…
Koushik : Hey I bought a new iphone yesterday…. It’s my aspiration to buy an iphone…… all of them have furores of buying iphone…
yes…. I finally bought this…. I feel really great.. And white is my favourite colour..
Have a look at this.
Ishan : Wow… that was very nice and specifications are were awesome….
But you could have gone with some other colour. White colour will look good for some days….but no colour can be replaced with black…
Koushik: Yes you are right….But
My favourite colour is white, comparatively white have a richer look than other colours… want to buy cover with different colour which contrast with white… planning to go tomorrow…
Ishan: How much the mobile cost?
Where you bought this?
Did you get any discount for this? Or you bought in EMI?
Koushik: This cost Rs.40,000. I bought this from “phone world” shop which in Marathahalli, very next to my place where I live… actually I don’t get any discount for this…
An EMI option was there, but I didn’t choose that, I am not interested in that. But I heard that in some other shop which is near Majestic, this model cost for Rs.39, 500. But, I choose to go for the shop which near…

Ishan: Oh.. Really…Why don’t you go for 39,500. Its less compared to 40,000.. And you could have saved Rs. 500 right…

You must have taken some time before purchasing this…Because it’s a very big amount.
And what about your mobile case where have you are planning to buy?….At least think about that before buying…

Most of the people do this kind of mistake. They even don’t have time to compare the price of the products which they prefer to buy. And some people they want to buy as soon as they see that. If they spend some time before buying anything that will make them to save some amount…With present CTC what we are getting paid, I feel it’s more worth to save Rs500… My opinion is if you would have bought this for 39,500 you would have saved a little amount.
Koushik: Yes you are right, but my opinion about savings is different from yours. I felt worth of buying this…I am not having case cover.

That shop is far away, I have to travel some 30 minutes. So, I planned to go tomorrow…
Ishan: Why you don’t buy cover in that same shop? Why are you travelling for this?.

Koushik: Actually it cost 1000 in that shop where I bought this mobile. I find a shop which is far away, there it is 500 only.
I thought that is cheaper compared to this. And the main thing is both are of same quality and same colour. So, I planned to go there.
Ishan: Hey…Come on…..For just 500 rupees you are ready to travel long distance. But you don’t go with same idea for the mobile?.. Why?
Koushik: I am right…I spent my time for this…About how and where to buy. After thinking about everything I bought this.
Ishan: Ok…tell me what benefit are you going to get from this? Its just a waste of time.
Koushik: As you said for both the Mobile and Mobile case, it has the same difference of Rs.500.
But the thing you should see here is what benefit I get from this.
I bought my iphone for 40,000 from very next shop. As you said if I would have bought this from far away shop for 39,500, then I might have spent more amount compared to the difference amount of Rs.500 which I have paid now First thing, you have to see here is I should allot more time for purchasing this item. If I was travelling for some distance It’s obvious , my family will also like to join with me. purchasing for Rs39,500 is very big amount if I go with my family I can discuss with them for further things or I can also change my opinion of buying this iphone and go with some other mobile I can discuss with them about this product and get their opinions. So, If we are planning to spend more money in one thing , then asking opinion with family will give you some idea. If they join with me Is should spend some money.
Second thing is ,If I travel by bus or bike or car I should spend some amount of money for this, say some 200 or above and The third thing is ,My mind set will be like, I would think of unwind for some time.so , I would like to refresh for some time by having a snacks time with my family . I should go in search for some best place for relaxations. Obviously, I have to spend for that too.so my budget will increase with these things by 1000 atleast.
If I go for next shop I can pretermit these things.so that I can save my another 500 instead of wasting 1000.
So I can take my family to the nearby shop for no additional cost.
Ishan: Ok. What about mobile case?
Koushik: The mobile cover cost for 500. I don’t want to waste 1000 on that. Because if I go for another place for buying I can also buy other extra things in that 500 like another cover or headphone, and one more thing is there will be no need for taking my family with me as this is a small amount . There will be no need for spending money for other intent. No extra amount can be otiose.
Ishan: Yes you are right.
Koushik: With the difference of 500 I can’t buy another mobile in that amount. But, if I buy cover for 500 instead of 1000. I can get another cover in that amount.
If we think in that way we can reduce our cost of spending for some percentage..
Ishan: Ok koushik…that’s nice hearing your strategy. The good thing we should see here is, plan correctly and compare with many possibilities before purchasing anything. So, that we can save same amount of money and time.
Koushik : Ok … lets start our work now. See you at break. Bye…
Ishan: Bye…
