“Bittu, why are you not ready for school yet?” Mother shouted.
“Mom… I am feeling sick today.” Bittu replied.
“Hey… enough of this nonsense,” Mother replied angrily, “Get ready for the school.”
“Mom… please…”
“Shut up. Go and have bath. I am preparing the lunch. Don’t be late.”
Bittu studies in class VI and goes for Math tuition every morning. Today, when she was returning home from her tuition classes, she witnessed something on
the road. Since then she has been feeling under the weather.
On the lunch table…
“Why are you not eating anything?” Mother asked irately.
“I have told you Mom, I am feeling extremely sick.”
“Tell me, what’s the story today?”
“Mom, I saw something on the road today.”
“Oh, that’s it? Is that why you are feeling sick?”
“Mom, you have no idea what happened out there.”
“Come on, tell me.”
“I can’t Mom.” Bittu said in frail tone. “Jogging my memory through that ghastly sight perchance can make me throw up on the table.”
“Whatsoever it is…either you say it or I will take out that old stick from almirah…you know what happens next…”
After being silent for few seconds, Bittu started. “Today, after coming out of the tuition class, I was getting ready to return. Then I saw a dog near the
garbage bin adjacent to our class. It was somewhat unwell. All of a sudden, it started throwing up. It was so disgusting to watch. And Mom, the smell was…”
“Ok, I can understand,” Mother said in a warm voice, “leave it.”
“No Mom. Do you know what happened afterwards?”
“What?”
“After the dog threw up, another dog showed up. And…”
“And…?”
“And it started to lick the vomit, and started to eat it.”
Mother jumped out of her seat, and rushed towards the washroom. Bittu shouted, “Mom, what happened?”
After a while, mother came out of the washroom, and told in a feebler tone, “I am feeling sick.”
